3 Betting In Low Stakes Cash
Games
Knowing when to 3 bet in low
stakes cash games can be the difference between
being a big winner and a marginal winner. 3
betting in low stakes games is an art form in
itself and as always is very dependant on the
situation you are in and the opponent you are
facing. There are times when 3 betting isn't a
good idea in low stakes cash games and there are
times when it is essential. Lets take a look at
the reasons to 3 bet to help work out when
to 3 bet in low stakes games and when not to.
The first and main reason to
make a 3 bet in any game is for value. If you
think you have the best hand and want to get
more money into the pot then it makes sense to
make a 3 bet to build the size of the pot. The
bigger the pot preflop the more money you can
get into the pot after the flop. 3 betting with
your big hands is a great way to maximize their
value. Slow playing big hands in low stakes
games is virtually never a good idea, so if you
have a big hand feel free to 3 bet your
opponents at will.

The second reason you would
want to 3 bet in a low stakes cash game would be
as a bluff. There are times when players get
very aggressive from the button when you are in
the blinds. If there is a serial raiser sat to
your right on the button when you are in the
blinds then don't be afraid to drop in the odd 3
bet to keep them in line. The same goes for if
you are on the button and the cut off is
constantly raising. If the player you are planning on 3
bet bluffing is a calling station then don't
bother. Try to only 3 bet bluff players who will
respect your re-raise.
Finally you might want to 3
bet as a squeeze play. This would be where there
had been a raise and a call before you act and
you 3 bet the pot to put the squeeze on the
other two players. Squeeze players look extremely strong to your
opponents and are best utilized against a loose
open raiser. This is a great way to win money
without having to see a flop. However, in low
stakes cash games you can expect to be called by
one of the players much more often. This means
you need to be very selective as to who you are
3 betting at the table. 3 betting calling
stations as a bluff in low stakes games is
virtually never a good idea!
