Table selecting is most prominent in cash
games. Sit and Go’s are difficult to table
select for because the lobbies are typically
filled at random. There isn’t too much you can
do about who sits with you in a Sit and Go.
Tournaments are the same as Sit and Go’s,
everything is random and you will not be able to
pick and choose your tables. Cash games,
however, provide players with the opportunity to
decide exactly who they want to battle with. The
ultimate goal is to find the weakest table
possible, but how do you do that? Poker sites
have built a tool into their lobbies where you
can see the percentage of times where players
see a flop. Any number over 30% is generally
pretty good. Join the waiting list on any table
that looks to be on the loose side. When you
start to gain some experience at your limits it
will be easy to recognize the players names. You
will soon realize that many of the same players
will be at each of your tables, day in and day
out. If there is a table running with players
who you don’t recognize there is a good chance
that there is some easy money to be made.
If there are no good tables your best choice
will be to start a new one. New tables will
often attract weak players who don’t want to
join waiting lists. The worst choice is to play
on a tough table just because there are no good
tables available. You will do better if you
don’t play at all than if you sit with opponents
who are tough competition.
