Online Sit and Go Poker Strategy

Playing in an online Sit and Go tournament can be both fun and very profitable. Online Sit and Go’s are my favorite part of playing online poker.

What I like most about playing in a Sit and Go online is that it is easy to find one that suits your skill level and bankroll. You can play in a beginner tournament for as little as $4 at your favorite online poker room. There is also higher buy-ins that give you a chance to play for larger stakes. Of course, the higher the buy-in the better the players you will be up against.

Playing in an online Sit and Go gives you the feeling of playing at a final table in a big tournament and best of all a Sit and Go is usually over in about an hour.

Usually the top three finishers win money in a Sit and Go but some pay out to the top five finishers.

The strategy that I have used very successfully playing online Sit and Go's is to start off playing very tight. I like to start out playing only the best starting hands. I start out by playing the following pairs – Aces, Kings, Queens, Jacks, and Ace-King as long as they are the same suit.

Sticking to playing the best starting hands lets me check out the competition and see what they are like. As the game progresses I will start to add other hands to my game. Such as Ace-King unsuited, Ace-Queen suited, Pair of nines, King-Queen suited.

I don't recommend that you go "all-in" in the beginning stages of a tournament. I let the real loose players knock one another out which gets me closer to finishing in the money.

As players start to get knocked out one very important thing to be aware of is that the value of starting hands become much more powerful. This is when you can play hands like Pair of eights, Pair of Sevens, Ace-Jack suited, and King-Jack suited.

As more players get knocked out you can introduce lower pairs into your game.

When you find yourself going head to head with the only other player left you need to play aggressively but to also play smart. Don't play garbage hands but remember that the starting hand values have now increased greatly.

Follow these tips and you'll be successful in Sit and Go tournaments. If you are looking for a great place to play in Sit and Go's my two favorites are Bodog and Full Tilt Poker.

Give a Sit and Go a try you'll never forget your first!
