Now you are ready to learn the recommended
starting hands for developing advanced Omaha
High Low poker players. This advanced section
strategy section on Omaha High Low playable
hands assumes that you are comfortable playing
our beginner and intermediate hands. This
strategy section will add additional playable
hands to the list of hands that you have been
playing. We will also discuss table position for
these hands as well.
As we have been discussing with our previous
lessons, starting hand selection is just one
piece of the puzzle. After you select which
hands to play it must also work well with the
flop. Hands that work well with the flop put you
in a position to win the pot. Don’t go chasing
after pots that you have a poor chance of
winning. That is a guaranteed losing strategy.
Advanced Omaha High Low Starting
Hands
These are playable hands from
late position when you can get in cheaply. If
you play these hands in late position I
recommend doing so by calling only one raise. I
would also recommend folding these hands against
really good players.
K-K-Q-J or other four high card sequences
that are suited, contain a pair but does not
contain an Ace.
K-2-3-4 – King suited with three wheel cards
K-Q-2-3
2-4-5-6, hands that have four cards less than
7 but without A-2, A-3, or 2-3)
The value of a strong starting hand in Omaha
High Low cannot be overestimated. However,
getting a starting hand worth playing is not
easy. That’s why you will need to develop
patience. When you do not receive a solid Omaha
High Low starting hand you should immediately
fold your hand and wait patiently until you
receive one.
When you do receive a playable hand it will
also need to work with the flop. If the flop
does not fit your hand you will want to fold.
You do not want to pour money into the pot on a
hand that has no or little chance of winning.
This is a guaranteed losing formula.
You now have a number of starting hands to
work with and master playing. I recommend that
you continue playing in low limit Omaha High Low
poker games. As you become comfortable playing
and winning with your hands then you can slowly
move up in the limits that you play. Move up
slowly though and only when you are ready. You
should only play limits that you are comfortable
playing at.
