More action than in hold'em
The
only difference between Hold'em and Omaha is
that you get four hole cards in Omaha instead of
two hole cards in hold 'em. That might not sound
like a big deal but this has a huge impact on
how the game is played.
You're allowed to use any two of your hole cards
in Omaha to make your final hand. That means you
have six possible starting hands in Omaha. For
instance a hand like AKQJ is AK, AQ, AJ, KQ, KJ,
QJ. You have a lot more possibilities to start
out with, but so do your opponents.
More exciting races
In
no-limit Hold'em the battle lines are drawn
clearly. But in Omaha Poker, pot-limit is the
more popular betting structure so not only is it
a different game that you'll be playing but a
different betting structure. In hold 'em you are
a huge favorite with aces against queens and in
most cases the money moves in the middle before
the flop.
Because of the no-limit structure in hold 'em
it's pretty easy to do. But pot-limit omaha
isn't played in no-limit structure. You can't
just push all-in if you want. You need another
opponent that also raises and reraises to
accomplish that. It's very rare to be all-in
before the flop. It's much more likely to be
all-in on the flop or on the turn. And if so the
race can be pretty much even.
More fish
Omaha is a whole new game but
many hold 'em players that are new to Omaha play
it as if it were Texas Hold 'em.
This is a mistake that can be
easily exploited by you if you're the one that
adapts to Omaha and sticks to playing good solid
hands. There are plenty of fish which means
plenty of money for you to win.
