Pot-limit Omaha Poker Tips
Pot-limit Omaha
is the new game!
It's fascinating
for players to
play a game with
a lot variety.
Many well known
poker
professionals
play high stakes
pot-limit Omaha
on the internet.
Most of them
started out
playing
hold'em and are now playing Omaha. Many others
are following their lead and giving Omaha a try.
But there are a few things that you need to know
before you sit down and play Omaha Poker:
1.
The hands are better
There are four hole cards in Omaha poker and you
can use any two to build a hand instead of two
hole cards in hold'em. Thus it's much more
likely to build a strong hand compared to
Hold'em poker. That doesn't mean that there's a
difference between hand rankings but that the
average hands players are holding are better.
While it's very rare to hold straights or full
houses in Hold'em you'll get those hands in
Omaha on a regular basis. That's why it's
important not to overvalue your hands. The fifth
best hand in Omaha has almost no value. You'll
need the nuts or second nuts most of the time.

2.
Pot-limit Omaha – the play of draws
Because of the many hand combinations it's also
possible to create strong draws. Draws with more
than 20 outs are common in Omaha poker. The
result is that even the nut hand on the flop
doesn't have to be the favorite to win the hand.
It's possible to flop the nuts with top set and
be an underdog against big straights - and flush
draws.
3.
Pot-limit vs. no-limit
You
can't bet all your chips in pot-limit every
time. You have to pay attention to the size of
the pot. If the pot isn't big enough you can't
go all-in – it's that simple. Therefore you have
to control and manipulate the pot. If you want
to get all your chips in the middle as soon as
possible then a simple bet isn't enough. You
often have to make use of a check-raise to
accomplish this goal.

4.
Selecting hands
It's true that Omaha starting hands are pretty
close in value before the flop and a strong hand
is only a 2:1 favorite against weaker hands. But
that doesn't mean that you can play every hand!
You have to be very selective. You have to play
hands where the cards fit together. Hands like
AAJT, QJT9 and KKQJ are monster hands that
should be played aggressively. The smaller your
cards the weaker your hand. 8765 is pretty good
but not as strong as QJT9.
Keep these simple tips in mind when playing
Omaha Poker.
