This is a guide to the best Omaha starting
hands. Playing only the best hands, especially
if you are new to Omaha will help you become a
consistent winner when playing Omaha Poker. Many
players make the mistake of playing too many
hands, especially beginners. Playing too many
hands is the biggest mistake that losing players
make.
So what are the best Omaha Poker starting
hands?
The absolute best starting hand is A-A-K-K
double suited. Double suited means that both of
your Aces are suited to your kings. For example,
if you have an Ace of hearts, Ace of spades,
King of hearts and King of spades your hand is
double suited. This hand contains the top two
pair. If you catch and Ace or King on the flop
you have the highest set (three of a kind). This
hand can also make the highest flush, straight
or straight flush. For all of these reasons it
is the best starting Omaha Poker hand.
A
starting hand that contains a pair of aces is an
excellent starting hand when it is paired with
other high pairs. For example, the following
hands if they are double suited are among the
very best Omaha starting hands, A-A-Q-Q,
A-A-J-J, A-A-T-T, A-A-9-9.
These same hands, A-A-Q-Q, A-A-J-J, A-A-T-T,
A-A-9-9 are still powerful even if only one of
the Aces is suited to one of your other cards.
For example Ace of clubs, Ace of hearts, Queen
of Clubs, Queen of spades.
Starting hands that contain a pair of Aces
with any lower pair are also powerful, again,
especially if they are double suited.
Moving down the list of best but still
excellent starting hands are pairs of Aces
teamed with other high cards such as A-A-J-T,
A-A-K-Q, A-A-Q-J, A-A-K-T, and A-A-K-J. If they
are double suited the hand is even better!
All of these excellent starting hands are
ones that you would play aggressively with
before the flop.
Additional starting
Omaha Poker hands that you will want to play are
hands that contain a pair of Kings or a pair of
Queens. The best of these hands are teamed up
with another pair and are double or single
suited. Examples of these playable hands are
K-K-Q-Q, K-K-J-J,K-K-T-T, K-K-9-9,Q-Q-J-J,
Q-Q-T-T, Q-Q-9-9, and lower pairs as well.
A pair of kings or queens are also playable
when teamed up with other high cards and if they
are double or single suited. This will give you
a chance to hit three of a kind, a full house, a
flush, a straight and even a straight flush.
This ends our discussion of the absolute best
possible starting Omaha Poker hands. If you are
just starting out playing Omaha Poker then these
are the hands that you should stick to playing.
This does mean that you won't be playing many
hands. However, many Omaha players play way too
many hands. By sticking to the best hands you
will be able to outplay them very early on in
your Omaha Poker education.
All of the hands that we discussed can be
played aggressively before the flop. However, if
you don't improve your hand on the flop you
should strongly consider folding. Staying in a
game in the hopes to hit a card when you don't
have very many outs is a surefire way to throw
away money.
In order to improve your Omaha Poker game you
need to play and practice. After sticking to
these hands for your first few sessions then you
can begin to incorporate some of our hands for
intermediate players.
Don't forget to play and practice to improve
your game.
