How To Play
Seven Card Stud Hi
Lo
Seven Card Stud Hi Lo is very
similar to Seven Card Stud except that it is a
split pot game. The pot is split between the
player with the best high poker hand and the
best low poker hand.
Because it is a split pot
game, Seven Card Stud Hi Lo requires a different
set of strategies. In order for a low hand to
qualify it can not contain a pair and it can not
have a card higher than an eight in it.
Because there are two winners
in the game you often have players betting going
after one half of the pot or both. This leads to
some large pots that you will be playing for.
A guide to how Seven Card Stud
Hi Lo is played:
- Three Cards dealt to each
player – two down and one up.
- A round of betting
beginning with the player who has the
highest up card showing
- One card dealt face up
- A round of betting
beginning with the player who is showing the
best poker hand
- One card dealt face up
- A round of betting
beginning with the player who is showing the
best poker hand
- One card dealt face up
- A round of betting
beginning with the player who is showing the
best poker hand
- Seventh and final card
dealt face down
- The final round of
betting beginning with the player who is
showing the best poker hand
- The Showdown!
You use five of the seven
cards to make your final hand. You can use two
different sets of five cards to make you low
hand and high hand.
Half of the pot goes to the
player with the best high poker hand and half of
the pot goes to the player with the best low
poker hand. Neither straights nor flushes count
in the low hand ranking so if you are fortunate
enough to hold a hand like A-2-3-4-5 of Clubs
you have the best possible low hand and quite
possibly the best high hand with a straight
flush. You would win the entire pot. This is
also known as scooping the pot. If no low hand
qualifies then the player with the best high
hand wins the entire pot.
