High Low Rules
Thanks to the large pots,
Omaha High Low
(also known as "Omaha
Hi Lo" or "Omaha 8 or Better") has quickly
become one of the most popular poker games.
In a game of Omaha Hi Lo each
player receives four cards which are dealt face
down. Five community cards are dealt face-up on
the poker table. All of the players use two
cards from their four hole cards in combination
with three of the community cards to make their
best five-card poker hand. The players also use
two of their hole cards in combination with
three community cards to make their best low
hand. The pot is divided between the best hand
for high and the best hand for low.
In order for a hand to qualify
as a low hand in Omaha Hi Lo the highest card
that can be used for the low hand is an 8. That
is what is meant by "8 or better". Flushes,
straights and straight flushes are not
considered in a low hand but they are in a high
hand. That is why the best hand you can get in
Omaha Hi Lo is an A-2-3-4-5 all of the same
suit. This hand will usually win for both the
high and low hand. This is also known as
scooping the pot. A low hand also can not
contain any pairs.

Omaha Hi Lo Poker
Rules
In Omaha Hi Lo poker, a disc
which is also referred to as "the button",
indicates which player is the dealer for the
current hand being played. Before the game
begins, the player to the immediate left of the
dealer posts the "small blind" which is half of
the small bet. For example, in a $2/$4 Omaha Hi
Lo game the small blind would be $1. The player
to the immediate left of the small blind posts
the "big blind", which is always a full small
bet. For example in a $2/$4 Omaha Hi Lo game the
big blind is $2.
Once the blinds have been
posted, each player is dealt their four “hole
cards” face down. This is followed by a round of
betting. This round of betting begins with the
player seated to the immediate left of the big
blind. The player must either call the blind bet
($2), raise, or fold. The action continues until
it comes around to the big blind.
The Flop
Three community cards are
dealt face up on the board. This is known as the
flop and is then followed by another round of
betting. This and all subsequent rounds of
betting begins with the first player seated to
the left of the dealer that is still in the
game. All of the bets and raises are still $2 in
a $2/$4 game. Players can check (if there has
been no bet made before them), raise, call (if
someone has bet before them) or fold.
The Turn
When the round of betting on
the flop has been completed another card is
dealt face up on the table. This card is
referred to as the "turn" or “fourth street”.
The turn card is the fourth community card in an
Omaha Hi Lo game.
The bets are now increased to
the higher stake. Using our $2/$4 game all bets
are now $4.
The River
The final card, the "river"
card is dealt face-up on the board. The river is
the fifth and final community card. The final
round of betting then takes place.
When the final round of
betting has been completed it is time for the
showdown. Each player reveals their cards and
the player with the best five-card hand for high
wins half the pot, and the player with the best
hand for low wins the other half.
In Omaha Hi Lo players must
use two hole cards in combination with three
community cards to make their best high hand.
Players must use two hole cards in combination
with three community cards to make their best
low hand. The player does not have to use the
same hole cards for their best high and low
hands. If no hand qualifies for the best low
hand then the best high hand wins the entire
pot.
