Five Card Stud
Rules
Five Card Stud is one of the
easiest poker games to learn. In Five Card Stud
is each of the players are dealt five cards in
four rounds with a round of betting after each
card is dealt. The players must make their best
five card hand from the cards they have been
dealt.
How to Play
Five Card Stud
Before the
players receive any cards they all must post an
ante. Then each of the players are dealt three
cards. To begin the game, each player posts a
small ante and then each player is dealt one
card face down and one card face up.
The play then begins with the
player who has the highest face up card. This
player must make a forced bet which is called
the Bring In. The Bring In bet is very similar
to the blind bets that are used in Texas Holdem,
its purpose is to force the action. After the
player with the high card showing posts the
Bring In bet, the play continues clockwise with
players either calling, raising to the lower
limit (completing the bet) or folding their
hand. Most five card games cap the betting at
three bets per round of betting.
Once the first round of
betting has been completed another card is then
dealt face up. This is followed by another round
of betting. The betting begins with the player
whose two face up cards show the best poker
hand.
Once the second round of
betting has been completed another card is then
dealt face up. This is followed by another round
of betting. The betting begins with the player
whose three face up cards show the best poker
hand.
Once the third round of
betting has been completed the final card is
then dealt face up. Each player now has one card
face down and four cards face up.
The final round of betting
takes place beginning with the player whose four
face up cards make the best poker hand.
Finally comes the showdown.
All of the remaining players must show their
cards. The player with the best five card poker
hand wins the pot.
