Five Card Draw
Rules
Five Card Draw is a popular and easy to learn
draw poker game. There is a good chance you may
already be familiar with Five Card Draw.
Five Card Draw starts out with the two players
to the immediate left of the dealer posting
blind bets, the small blind and big blind
respectively. The small blind is half the lower
stake limit and the big blind is equal to the
lower stake limit. The big blind is also the
size of the minimum bet. For example in a $1/$2
game the small blind is $0.50 (half the lower
stake) and the big blind is $1.
Blinds are used in poker games to get money into
the pot. This helps fore the action since
players have something to play for. The blinds
are considered live bets. The big blind is able
to check, raise, call and fold.
Once the blinds have been posted five cards are
dealt face down to the players that are seated
at the table.
Once the cards are dealt it is time for the
first round of betting. The first round of
betting begins starting with the player to the
left of the dealer. The players have the option
of calling the bet, raising the bet or folding.
When the first round of betting is over, each
player has the option of discarding up to five
cards and receiving new ones in their place so
that they can try to improve their hand.
Following this draw, a second round of betting
takes place. The players at the table have the
option of calling the bet, raising the bet or
folding.
When the final round of betting is completed it
is time for the showdown. At the showdown the
cards are revealed and the player with the best
poker hand wins the pot.
Some variations of Five Card Draw make use of
the joker as a wild card. The joker can be used
as an ace, to complete a straight, a flush, or
straight flush which is why it is not a
completely wild card. If the joker is used to
make a flush, it will be the highest card of the
flush not present in the hand. If the joker is
in use, five aces is the best possible hand,
four aces and a joker.
