Multi Tabling
Multi tabling is one of the greatest benefits of
online poker. There are no casinos where a
player can sit at four tables at a time. There
are so many reasons why multi tabling helps a
good poker player, from the ability to put in
more volume to an increased win rate. While
there are many benefits to multi tabling, it
should also be noted that multi tabling can be
the death of just about any player. As with most
things in life, the key to multi tabling is
moderation. Each player handles multi tabling
differently, and as a result each player will be
able to benefit from it in their own unique way.
Benefits of multi tabling
There are certain benefits that only apply to
some players, but one thing that every player
enjoys is the increased pace of the games. Live
games will usually only allow for 10-15 hands
per hour while online games are generally around
100+ hands per hour. Couple this with the fact
that you can play a bunch of tables at a time
and you will be in action nonstop.
The
biggest benefit of multi tabling is the ability
to multiply your win rate. While it is highly
unlikely that your win rate will be multiplied
in direct correlation to the number of tables
that you play, it is very possible that your
overall hourly earn will be increased. Pretend
that your hourly win rate at 200NL is $20 when
you are one tabling. If you play two tables your
hourly win rate would probably be around $35 or
so. While it is not double the amount, it is a
significant increase. If you three table, your
win rate might be somewhere around $47. As you
can see, the hourly win rate continues to
escalate with each table that is added, but it
is not going to be $20 more for each table. One
downfall of multi tabling may now be evident to
you, if not, be sure to read about them below.
The
third main benefit to multi tabling is along the
same lines as an increased win rate. Virtually
all poker sites pay some type of rewards or
points to their players. These points are paid
according to the volume of hands that are
played. The more tables you play, the more hands
you are able to get in. The more hands you play,
the more points you earn.
Downfall of multi tabling
Every downfall of multi tabling stems from the
overstepping of your limits. The reason that
your win rate is not multiplied for each table
added is because of the inability to play your
best. One tabling allows players to focus 100%
on each and every hand, two tabling will drop
this focus down a notch. The cycle can become
tough to break as the allure of more money will
often end up being the death of a player. It is
easy to fall into the trap of thinking “If I
make this much playing three tables, I can only
imagine how much I would make playing twelve!”
The problem with playing too many tables at a
time is the inevitable decrease in quality of
play. If you keep adding tables it is a near
certainty that your win rate will eventually
approach zero. The key is to find what amount of
tables works best for you personally, and
remember that each player reacts differently to
multi tabling.
